I had lunch with my father recently. I told him about the market I had attended. He told me about how when he was 14-15 years old, he lived with a family who had a tailor shop. My father was an apprentice there. He explained to me that he would have to go to a part of the town and sell pants and jackets on a regular basis. What ever he sold, he explained that he would not get paid for his time, his room and board was his pay. I was told by my late mother, while she was in school, she had to learn how to mend, make socks, learn embroidery. I have one of her pillow cases with embroidered eyelets. I remember both parents continued to be creative in there own personal way. Mom, over the years, did everything from crocheting, knitting, needle work, sewing, painting, ceramics, paper crafts, etc. I have many pieces of her creativity. Dad could make anything out of wood! He didn't sew much after coming to Canada, but he taught me a few things. I do love working with wood as well as what I do now, however I do not get to do as much as I like. I am very grateful that they passed down the creative part of their DNA. They have been great supporters of everything I have created, even if it wasn't their taste! Thank you for everything Mom and Dad. I hope to keep doing what I love, because of your support and teaching.
